A bit of an unconventional post (pics)

I thought I would share a couple of engagment pictures that me and my fiance' had taken. We will have a moto themed wedding (her idea actually) http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb139/Bookgirl6/engagementpics023.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb139/Bookgirl6/engagementpics025.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb139/Bookgirl6/engagementpics027.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb139/Bookgirl6/engagementpics032.jpg and one of her on her bike. RE: Son's 08 Can-Am electrical question

Well not being familiar with the model I cannot tell you if there are pre-wired leads, check your service or owners mannual about that. But you could wire your own with a bit of home-brew engineering. You can use a switch like this Brake Light Switch http://www.kevinscycleracing.com/images/plastic/brklghtswtch.jpg and a spring like this Spring and a generic brake/clearance light of your choosing. http://www.folandsales.com/product_images/catalog19665/305900159w_gasket.gif You will have to fab up a bracket to hold the switch. I would use some light gauge steel strapping bend it into an "L" shape. Drill the appropriate holes to mount it to the frame with some sheet metal screws, and attach it (with the spring) to the brake pedal, and adjust the pull so it operates the switch when the pedal is depressed. Now just wire from a switched source through the switch then to the "brake" light. Here is a crude drawing I did in paint. Hope it makes sense. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d80/princevaliant/Drawing.jpg

RE: I'm back

Very nice! I am a bit sad that you swapped for a 350/TH350 combo instead of retro modding the original 235 I6, but its understandable since its probably going to be a daily driver. Way back we had a 58 or 59 Apache 3600 (1 Ton) 261 I6 5.10 (dualie) rear end and a period flat bed with a PTO driven wintch on an A frame making sort of a boom truck. It was a farm/work truck but (and this was 15 years ago) we did a freshen up not a total frame off but put a quick paint job fixed some rust and dents ect... and went over the running gear. Sold it sometime after that but it was a nice vintage truck that I kinda wish we still had even though I am not really a chevy guy.

RE: Replacement Air Breather

Another (cheaper) option that I have installed on my teammates quads are these. http://www.motoworldracing.com/media/White%20Bro/wb-AirBoxVentFilters.jpg They are made by UNI filter and only about $10. I have drilled and put 6 of them in the top of the air box lids. As far as noticeable power gains its the same as running without the lid altogether, which is not much only a slight needle adjustment for jetting was necessary. Bottom line is most "butt" dynos won't notice much if anything. Although the "ear" dyno will. The better choice IMO is swap the factory single stage foam filter for an aftermarket dual stage and keep the lid on (to keep the big stuff out) as most modern sport quad air boxes are designed pretty well these days unlike in years past. Bottom line is a better air filter will make the most difference vs. just the lid or the combination of the two. And if your interested I wrote a general information piece on air filters a while back Read it here

RE: chinese youth atv

definetly go name brand, the chinese bikes are great until you need parts, then you might as well throw it out, at least a name brand machine you can get new parts if it breaks. Find the right brand and supplier and support and parts are plentiful. Finding a reputable distributor is the key. PM me if you choose to go this route for some recommendations as I have some real world experience with these unlike most on this site.

RE: ltz400

Oh god! I thought they did away with those type of vacuum operated petcocks in the mid 80's. That is quite possibly your problem right there. Carefully remove the cover screws and check the diaphragm for tearing or pin holes. Loss of vacuum + closing of the diaphragm = no fuel will flow when in the "ON" and "RES" positions. Try using the "PRI" setting. Quick fact: in the old days they called this "tickleing the carburetor" Internals will look something like this. http://www.americanclassix.com/parts/new15/IMG_0811.jpg #14 in the diagram http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d80/princevaliant/SU-04-2005-3843.gif

I built somewhat of a replica of this plastic model back in high school shop class. I have a picture but its on film and not scanned in. Click here http://www.briansmodelcars.com/galleries/photoset.asp

RE: ltz400

Is the fuel tap on? Possible plastic swarf (from manufacturing) in the tank plugging the fuel petcock screen. Fuel line has deteriorated and collapsed. Tank vent plugged or installed incorrectly. That is all that can be wrong if fuel fails to reach the carburetor. Now if the problem is fuel reaching the engine, dirt or worn parts inside the carburetor will be the problem.

RE: Computer opinions

save a couple hundred more and get a mac. You won't regret it. I use both pc and mac and prefer the mac way over my pc. You failed to read my entire post. I had Macs in the past (back when Windows 3.1 was "the thing") the old LC500 series and just never had a good impression. Loved my Viao running XP MCE. Thanks for the info/recommendations Comrad, I probably won't piece it together myself as I am just not into that and I am computer dumb when it comes to compatibility of parts. My main concern was the video card I basically need it be able to process analog signals as a good share of my archived media is on analog and even real 8mm and 16mm film media. As far as DVD/CD drives I would be looking into a Combo drive for DVD burning. Peripherals I have. Snake oil, I have looked at some of HP's line and a few models look like they will serve my needs as well and are more convenient. So I guess I am still on the fence but leaning towards building or having it built for me from parts of my choosing. One last thing. Any opinion on sites like www.ibuypower.com or cyberpowerpc.com? Or similar sites?

Computer opinions

I am at the point that I finally want to purchase a new computer. My old one that I had for 5+ years crapped out about 5 months ago (I have been logging on at work, shhh!!) My old system was a Sony Viao VGC 820G desktop running XP Media Center. I really liked the functionality and performance of it for my personal video editing and minor audio mixing. Since its been 5 years since I shopped for a machine/parts. I bought my Viao from some electronics store. This time I am looking at both store bought and building my own (via a website such as Ibuypower ect...) So my question is what main components do I need to be mindful of when building my PC. Here are my basic minimum requirements. These would be the minimum although I would like better/more unless cost prohibits. Motherboard: ??? but I need firewire ports and several USB 2.0 Hard drive min 320G RAM 4MB FSB 800mhz dedicated video card memory 256 w/DVI,HDMI,analog (coaxial) I/O Processor ???? (my Viao had a 3.4Ghz Intel Pentium 4) OS: I want to run Vista 64 bit but unsure which version to buy/look for. Air cooling is sufficient (my Viao was liquid cooled) My real concern is the video card, with so many choices I am not sure which one will suit my needs, mainly the analog processing. I am partial to ATI (via had an ATI Radeon X800) but I am not brand loyal. My budget is under $1K, I am thinking that I can get something reasonably built for $800. And I don't want this thread to become a pissing match between Mac and PC owners, I am going PC and will not consider Mac.

RE: Winter projects?

Can you not just read the voltage on the TPS and compare with the reccomended range? The TPS is set by the angle of the throttle blades, not the voltage (like most EFI systems) I am however not understanding why the service manual would not have a procedure for setting it via a voltage test, but it doesn't. I believe it has something to do with the fact that the bike runs in open loop under 1800RPM regardless of engine or air temp.

RE: Winter projects?

Oh man! I have several thing to work on not to mention a new house. Projects that I want to have done by next season is/are: Replace crank bearings and seals in the KX250, possibly replace (KIPS) exhaust valve parts if worn. Currently my Buell is up on the lift replacing the clutch plates, basket and hub with a lighter bit more durable unit (I got 15,000 miles out of the stock one), replace the in tank (frame) fuel filter check/test the pump. Change the brake fluid. I also want to check/reset my TPS if any dealer in the greater Denver area will sell me the special tool required to do the job, otherwise I might have to take it in to have that done. On that note I have had a very difficult time getting HD dealers to special order special shop only tools even though they list the part numbers in the service manual and parts manual. I never have any of these troubles with Japanese or Euro dealers even for bikes that are 20+ years old. I also hope to put a Lock-Rite in the rear of my pickup.

Red Bull Soap Box Race Denver (Red Rocks Amphitheater)

I thought I would post this up. This is an event I attended this last weekend, the Red Bull Soap Box race near Denver. Being this is pretty much in my back yard and free admission I thought I go and watch. Here are some links to the story's and photos. This is something that me and my team will try to do in the future. Oh and BTW the fastest car was 27 mph. Red Bull Soap box race press release Photos

RE: Getting rides together!

SPOT satellite messenger, get one of these if you ride alone. Its at least a little bit of piece of mind (its also pretty cool to document your rides). I ride alone a lot for some of the same reasons stated above and partly because I either leave the house or get up from camp to be on the trail at day break. If you use your noodle whilst riding along it can be safe.

RE: ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!

I have been saying this from day one. Because of his associations he would not have basic security access. Honestly I am not sure how he gets what he does get right now. And another thing... This is not America, Americans don't worship their leaders. This is getting scary. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d80/princevaliant/opray.jpg
